Love all of the suggestions.

I would propose that a second toolbar directly above the current one on the bottom would be a great solution to reduce unnecessary mouse travel.

I especially love the idea of the speed telegraph and rudder controls being open all the time. Might as well have the new course entry UI be open all the time, too.
