Don't install it to your desktop!!!
Just create another folder on your drive called Games or whatever and let it install there.
GWX should add traffic to your harbor experience but depending on your system you might find things a bit more "laggy" there. IIRC it comes with an optional "lite harbor traffic" mod that you can enable if this occurs and it's something you can't live with.
There's also a stickied thread for GWX in the Mods Workshop that is always active as new users come aboard... questions posted there usually get a fairly quick response so that's probably your best place to go for info.
