1050 - Tubes IV, II and I (all T-3) serviced. Break.

1100 - Commencing servicing of stern tubes.

1151 - Tube V (EtoFAT) serviced.

1157 - CO₂ - Warning at 1.7%.

1420 - Charging batteries (82%): Stbd.Diesel, Charging/496RPM; Port.-Diesel, Propulsion/285RPM/8kn.

1545 - Batteries charged: 1h 25' for 18%.
Small-Ahead/225RPM/8kn.

2041 - Sundown. Weather and Sea unchanged since Sunrise.

2304 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.:
OKW-Report: British troops withdraw from Buthidaung, Burma; Allied naval forces have begun the Operation Retribution blockade, sealing off Tunisia from the sea; German television began broadcasting from studios in Paris.

Cmdr.: U 465, 439, 332 have not yet reported since they left Western France. Several challenges received no reply. Their loss must be assumed during the last few days in April when air patrolling was very strong. On 28.4. U 439 and 332 were detailed to assist U 437, who had been damaged. They did not reply to this order either, although they must have been in the vicinity.
Search planes sent out did not find U 663, although considering the prevailing sea force this was not extraordinary. No reports were received from the boats detailed to assist. So far, U 663 has not replied to control. She can use only her emergency transmitter and probably cannot get through during heavy weather (antenna awash).

Considering all this, we have been able to transit the Bay of Biscay relativly unscathed.

0700 - Qu.1575CG - Alarm for training. T=10 after 36sec. (1sec. faster than before).

0705 - At A-Meter commencing Trial Dive acc. B.d.U.-Standing Order No.507 & 308; 145rpm.

0741 - Boat is safe and secure at 2A-Meter.

0742 - Setting for T=20; 98rpm.

0759 - Reception Depth.

0805 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 05min. and 3.8nm.

0807 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled; Battery 94%; 225RPM/8kn.

0917 - Qu.1577CG - "Surface Vessel!". S Class Destroyer bearing 310°, E=13000, very fast on course 325°.

0920 - Another surface vessel as a mere shadow bearing 0°, is identified as an Escort Carrier and two FuMB-Detection (No Magic Eye).

0922 - Aircraft sighted in 163°true, E=6000, direct approach. The S Class Destroyer is turning toward the boat at high speed. "ALARM!".

0923 - At T=20, 2 bombs, light concussions, no damages.

0930 - At A-Meter, Silent Running.

0935 - 26 Wabos dropped by two destroyers at the diving position astern until 1003.

1003 - One of the destroyers heads back to the Aircraft Carrier, while the other destroyer keeps loitering around our diving position.

1025 - The second destroyer leaves for the A/C Carrier at medium speed.

1035 - Secured from Silent Running; Setting for T=20.

1044 - Reception Depth.

1049 - S-Tiefe. In relative bearing 110°, a Tribal Class Destroyer, that still searching for us but in a different location, E=8000.

1122 - Surfaced after 2h and 5.5nm.

1123 - Boat ventilated; Battery 90%.
FuMB Detection in the area of our diving position, 9700m astern (no Magic Eye).

1126 - Compressed Air Supply filled. 1/3-Ahead.

1200 - Qu.1733CG - Days Run: 164.7nm - ↗ 149.8nm (18h 45') - ↘ 14.9nm (5h 15')
Total: 954.5nm (4tg 22h) - ↗ 922.2nm (4tg 10h 20') - ↘ 32.3nm (11h 40')
498cbm (1cbm in 24h); Course 231°; Battery 90%; Weather and Sea unchanged in 29h.
