Holy crap! I can almost see the sweat trickling down your crewman's face as he looks at the dive guage.

If you blow ballast more than once, the boat will surface more quickly. I don´t know if it really helps in situation like this.
I was so panicked when the depth gauge was on 220 that I banged my keyboard to find the 'E' button and almost yelled to the boat to rise!
We almost surfaced in the middle of the destroyers (there where 2 of them), because the boat was rising so fast.
