- continued from 7 August 1941, 0511h -

0531 - Sunrise.

0613 - Qu.3451AL - O=20%. Bow tubes reloaded. S-Tiefe.
The weather has deteriorated - the sea is now foaming.

0642 - Shot with tube III: G7a/G7H (K-a/AZ); Running depth 4m; Vt30. Own course 210°; Own speed 135rpm, 2kn.
Target ship: Pos.4 Medium Merchant.
Target course 120°; Target distance 431m; Target angle red90°; Target speed 1kn; Firing angle 28°.

Tube III is a failure, understeers!

0643 - Flank speed backwards, as the boat is getting too close to the target ship.

0646 - Shot with tube IV: G7a/G7H (K-a/AZ); Running depth 4m; Vt30. Own course 210°; Own speed 65rpm, 1.6kn.
Target ship: Pos.4 Medium Merchant.
Target course 120°; Target distance 390m; Target angle red90°; Target speed 1kn; Firing angle α°.

Tube IV is a hit midships after 25 Sek.! The steamer settles and sinks on an even keel. After it has disappeared beneath the waves, some load underwater boiler explosions.

The destroyer is running close to our previous position but doesn't seem to have any working ASW equipment nor depth charges on board.

0710 - T=40. Tube V reloaded with G7a/G7H (K-a/AZ). Turning boat around to get into attack position against the previously torpedoed Hog Island Merchant.

Cmdr.: "There! All of a sudden, load underwater explosions are heard, coming from the direction of the pos.3 steamer. Back to S-Tiefe, nothing can be seen. I'm assuming, that after 2h, the bad weather and high swell has compromised the general seaworthiness of the steamer and caused it to sink. I'm going back to T=40 for reloading of tubes III&IV."

0725 - Running off on course 210° and 65rpm, 1.6kn.

0753 - Tubes III & IV reloaded with G7e/G7H (K-b/AZ).

0800 - Surfaced after 3h40' and 9.7sm. Battery 6300Ah.
NW7/6, overcast, fog, poor visibility, <1000mb.

0802 - Boat ventilated. "Dismissed from Battle Stations!".
