Wednesday, 27 August 1941 - Southwest of Iceland -

0103 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.: B-Dienst reporting on an incoming convoy, that was in Qu.AE7590, on 26.8., 1719h. All boats that are now on course 190°, are to break-off the action and to operate on this convoy and are ordered on different search courses, at 6-8kn. RST: You are free to maneuver.

Cmdr.: Since convoy 0103/27 is out of reach, I decide to continue to operate toward the south, due to three reasons:
1. I can operate along the main shipping and convoy routes,
2. I keep my options open to operate against the "Schüler"-Convoy,
3. I'm leaving the enemy air cover zone around Iceland.

0544 - Sunrise. Weather unchanged in 24h.

1200 - Qu.1647AL - Days Run: 189.8sm - (24h).
87.9cbm (3.5cbm/24h) +1.3 Reserve. 9300Ah. 14+1 torpedoes.
NW4/3, overcast, light haze, visibility 7-8sm, ~1000mb.

1303 - Third status request sent by B.d.U. to U 452 (March). Boat is presumed lost.

(Historically, sunk 7 days in on its first war cruise, on 25 August 1941 in the North Atlantic south of Iceland, in position 61.30N, 15.30W, by depth charges from the British A/S trawler HMS Vascama and from a British Catalina aircraft - 209 Sqn RAF/J. 42 dead, all hands lost).

1357 - Open F.T. from U 570:
Am not clear to dive and am being attacked by aircraft. AE 7698. - Rahmlow -

B.d.U. orders all boats in the vicinity to help her.

1600 - Crossed 58°N. New course 180°.

1801 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.:
If no contact with convoy 0103/27 by dark, move to southwest, outside of the enemy air cover zone, as the enemy air cover makes freedom of operation impossible in the area occupied until now.

1937 - Norddeich Radio sending O.K.W. report about British air raids during the night on West- and Southwest Germany. Especially, Cologne was targeted. Flak shot down two enemy bombers.

2105 - New course 90°. K.F.-Ahead.

2205 - Sundown. Midnight Twilight.
Weather unchanged since Etmal.

Boat operating acc. Op.-Orders as per B.d.U.-F.T.1801/27.
