Extremely late reply (not been Subsimming lately!
), but the short answer is yes, they only run straight. From what I can gather the Soviet Navy didn't have a TDC type system until after WW2 so everything had to be done manually.
What the SOMGroup have included in the game is (I think) based on that postwar TDC equivalent. I'm still trying to figure out how that works.
