disaster? They posted a record breaking quarter just a bit ago!

20 billion in revenue is not a disaster LOL. There is a yoy growth of nearly 18%.

now the windows division was "flat", but that is very impressive considering the market conditions. Remember, PC sales numbers dropped almost 14% last quarter. Flat is pretty good considering the circumstances really.

Microsoft is making the right moves in my opinion. PC sales are collapsing industry wide. Apple, whose PC sales have outpaced the industry as a whole, suffered a 21% drop yoy on their mac division last quarter (Callander year q4 2012), even with the introduction of multiple critically acclaimed new products.

Microsoft's windows rt strategy is ineffective and confused though. They are battling apple in the 10", 500+ category, a category that apple has completely dominated.

what is really sad is that Microsoft's surface rt, with sales that are barely higher than 1 million, actually is the second best selling tablet in the category. Other tablets have completely failed in the category, the Xoom, Xyboard, Sony tablet p, etc all failed to crack 1 million per quarter. Its not just android tablets that have struggled in the category, both the blackberry playbook and hp touchpad failed miserably before major price cuts.
