As you can see from the wake of the Chatelain, they were very close indeed. Chatelain is weaving to try to avoid being torpedoed as it crosses the U-boat's bow. In no way a german torpedo - or anyone's could have been threatening a ship that close. Apparently the sub is absolute helpless and desperate...
Anyway. It may even help some jung people to get into the matter.
