NEW LEAGUE LEADER!
...another change at the top of the ladder..

Week Eight in the Subsim Fantasy Football League, and depending on where you draw the line for the halfway point of the league, at the conclusion of this weeks game we are in the second half of the regular season and the lead of the league has changed again. We'll get really spooky on Halloween as we ghost our coaches and get into the catacombs of the weekend, right after we give this very important message about voting.

DONATE TO SUBSIM...AND NOMINATE SUBSIM FANTASY FOOTBALL FOR BEST OF SUBSIM

Lets start with our match of the day at Wembley, with Helmand Nighthawks hosting the Black Cats. The Black cats had jumped out to a scary start in front of everyone and the Nighthawks were trolling the crypts in last place in week one. Never to be doubted, the Nighthawks have crawled their way out of the tombs like the undead and started harvesting wins like they were being handed out like candy. This was a divisional match up however that had far reaching implications of placing of Nighthawks, potentially, one game clear of the mauling pack following them. Despite the zombie like performance of Daniel Jones (QB) interim on the team, it was Deandre Hopkins (WR) who carried the team on his hunchback. Mike Evans (WR) tried to reverse curse the Nighthawks and get in front but had little to no support from the four open tombs where the Cats failed to start a player. The Nighthawks might have gotten away from the chainsaw massacre had the Cats started all their players, but when you're playing in the fog of the Thames, that's what you get. Final score, the Helmand Nighthawks defeat the Black Cats 127 - 90.

Our second international game this week was in the land where they have traditionally not partaken of Halloween, DownUnder with the Australian Taipans. Competing with one of the world greatest horse races, the Melbourne Cup, the Taipans had were all over this like a rat up a drainpipe with Derrick Henry (RB) posting his best score of the season. The Drunk Monkeys, who had won five in a row to this point, were cur off from drinking as the Taipans put up their second blow our win of the season. This won wasn't even close folks, as the Australian Taipans demolished the Drunk Monkeys 157-79.

In Oregon, the Who Dat Nation were hosting the Boss team in football, but with cricket scores. Not a lot of defense to be seen int his game, as it became one of the biggest shootouts seen this year. Antonio Brown (WR) finally showed why Coach Anthony drafted him so high as he put up 45.60 points. But Coach Anthony as a newcomer to the league did not realize he was playing a former Torpedo Bowl champion with Cam McCafferty passing, rushing and revving for touchdowns in the game. Alvin Kamara (RB) didn't want to be outdone putting up 42.80 points, but it was Nick Folk (K) who put up 21 points on his own that was super impressive. Breaking the double century barrier, the Who Dat Nation hand out a lesson in scoring defeating the Boss Team 208 - 174.

Our final match of the week was a cliff hanger that went back and forth throughout the weekend. Depending on when you watched the broadcast, you could have left the game and thought you had the game won, only to discover that was not the case. On Sunday alone the lead had 15 point swings five (5) times as the The Guns of Hochuli hosted the Brigade, New comers to the league, the brigade had already claimed several scalps, but this is a former Torpedo Bowl Champion who was leading the league - could they do the impossible and cruise into Sugarland and defeat the Gunners? You bet they could, and they did, as they needed Nick Chubb (RB) to continue running into late Monday night before securing their victory. The Gunners, playing one man down might have won this had they played a full compliment, but that's why this is a weekly game. Needing all of Monday night before we got a final score, the Brigade get an inprobable win against the Guns of Hochuli 143 - 130.

So after week eight weeks we have yet another change at the top and bottom of the ladder, and a swarm in the middle that we just cant break open.

At the top of the ladder at 5-3 are three teams. Not unexpectedly, after some shaky starts, the Who Dat Nation and the Helmand Nighthawks, the most successful teams int he Torpedo Bowl, have risen tot he #1 and #2 position. Hold onto yourself, occupying the equal third position are the Drunk Monkeys who once again prove they are the best damm 4-12 team in the league.

If three teams for first through third don't make you think this is the most competitive league in Subsim, how about the fourth through sixth positions. The loss this week bumps the Guns of Hochuli back to 4-4 and the fourth position, shared on the count back with the Australian Taipans in 5th, and the Banter brigade in sixth. One game back from them are the Bosses at 3-5, while the Black cats bring up the cellar at 2-6.

But anything can and probably will happen in the next few weeks, but we can only take this one week at a time, so lets look ahead to next weeks game. We're off the England again next week when the Boss Team host the Guns of Hochuli. The Bosses lead the way of the expansion teams but in order to legitimize their existence int he league they have to go through the Gunners, former Torpedo Bowl winners. It will be a hard fought game which even at this stage, the Bosses start clear favorites. And we'll be there to catch all the action of every game, every week, in the Subsim Fantasy Football league.

Each week, (including the week where our post vanished) the Associated Subsim Writers (ASW) will nominated their Most Valuable Torpedo (MVT) of the week, the single player who proved decisive in their teams performance.

It's a great day when a team wins the MVT, it's a historical day when an expansion team brings home their first MVT. For the effort of 101 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 reception for 3 yards a 2 point conversion, touchdowns for a total of 31.40 points, the Week Eight MVT goes to Nick Chubb (RB) of the Banter Brigade.
