If you want to play a German campaign with better graphics than SH3, I recommend Operation Monsun for SH4:

It has a WWII Atlantic German campaign for SH4 despite the name - so it's not just Monsun boats! It has Type II, Type VII, and Type IX campaigns & missions. It's easy to get started IMO; it's easy to master the Silent Hunter 4 controls if you have experience with Silent Hunter 3. Of course, mastering the game as a whole and surviving past 1943 is a huge challenge but that's the way it should be.
