It would be nice to know the sound conditions before choosing the distance to start the contact. It does give something of a weather report, but that is not as "distinct" as just knowing the decibel level. Starting at 25k yards and realizing that that "storm" overhead is much worse than expected means, to me, that I have to travel to actually make contact. Those few words about wind and rain aren't very telling as to the decibel level. But that is okay.

Tonight, (at war's end) I just happened to be at Greminka so I sat there waiting for "somewhere in the next seven days" an SSBM to depart to launching position in the Berents Sea. I had two contacts and seven torpedoes. I started each of those two missions at 25k and went silently in the opposite direction. The second one came after me and so I fired three torpedoes to, then, avoid the torpedoes coming my way. The third contact came out of Greminka because I di not see the icon coming my way on the big map. It was a Delta IV with three sub escorts. (and a whale) I got him and two escorts before I ran from that group with just three torpedoes going down bearings. After firing, I ran from all of the torpedoes coming my way. I eventually doubled back because it sank with only one torpedo. I did not consider the fact that I was on the Basic Level and one torpedo killing it surprised me. As I hovered over it 45+ minutes later, an Alfa went by about 10-14k away...I snooped after him, never found him.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I just didn't see a visual icon on the big map, so whatever it was, it was coming outof Greminka. I started at 10k range and just went for it.

The software update HAS changed my play style...how much should I gamble with my $$$ boat.

A better WX report would be nice...Like everything else, it is the XO's fault.
