This joystick has been my "go to" for over ten years. There are enough buttons to get you in trouble, its dirt cheap (I have two of them so I can switch out if needed), and it does the job without taking over your house (it needs less of a footprint than a mouse).

They don't wear out but some buttons (and the rudder sensor) may work loose over time and best of all, its fix-able (once you learn two tricks to putting the hand grip back together).
