I found how to evade those damn DDs :-)
I was hiding right below a merchant
Took me 1 hour before they abort their hunt, because the merchant slowed down to 2 knots I dunno why and soon the DDs ran away to catch up with the main convoy...
Was fun haha, but long... 1 hour in real time without time compression lol
