The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame announced the 2024 list of new inductees and I noticed one name was on the list that should have been inducted a long, long time ago; Big Mama Thornton was one of the finest, rawest Blues singers ever to take the stage and influenced many singers in may genres; she recorded a version of Hound Dog before a guy of lesser talents made his career off the song 9and there has long been speculation the song was actually at least partly written by Big Mama and one or two others before Lieber & Stoller claimed it as their own 'original' composition); it is really great to see her getting her long overdue props...

Her she is singing one of her own songs backed by the Buddy Guy Blues Band, with Buddy playing impeccable guitar...

...and here is a live performance by Janis Joplin covering Big Mama's song; the video was shot in 1968 at the studios of TV station KQED Channel 9 in San Francisco as what was intended to be a series of taped live performances by local SF bands; however, the one program that this clip was taken from was the only one ever done since the cooperation of other bands was difficult to get (the Jefferson Airplane were supposed to be the second act to get the full one hour treatment, but static from their record label and management killed the deal); I still remember watching Big Brother & The Holding Company performing this set on TV in 1968...
