AFAIK You can move the flag and guide around only to the ship "Group" assigned to "Human Control" in the scenario file (.sdf)

In some scenarios , The human player escorting a AI Group in DC can see and control their waypoints . This would have to be defined in the scenario file.

Let me try to explain. In a scenario file the ships ( and everything else eg land guns, subs, ac) are assigned to Groups. Each Group has it own Guide and Flag.

One Group is assigned to Human Control ( eg Group 1) . All Other Groups ( eg Group 2 ) (eg a merchant convoy will be under AI Control.

To learn how this works navigate to your destroyer command folder:
...\Destroyer Command\Sim\Scenarios\Historic\H06 Convoy 66.sdf

Open the .sdf in Notepad.
In this file is all the scripts used by the game to run and define the scenario. scroll down and you'll see the heading for: ;;; Groups. ;;;;;;

Then scroll down to "Units" Each Group is composed of 1 or more Units . Eg Group 1 specifically Group1.1 , is a destroyer shipdivision of 4 DD with [Unit1] through [Unit4]. Unit 5 starts the long list of convoyed ships. etc.

When done..Close the file ...Do not save any changes you accidentally made to the file while looking at it.

Once you understand how the scenario file works you can have enormous fun modeling and playing around with different scenarios and experiment with "what ifs "of you own. You can also improve the AI and make the game s scenarios dynamic. -Vox
