a) Additonal Order, from 20 June: The following has been added to B.d.U. Standing Order No. 13: Life jackets are to be available to the entire crew in the air endangered areas according to para.1).
b) Report from "Milkcow" U 462 Oblt. Bruno Vowe: On outbound transit was attacked and damaged by 5 Mosquito aircraft in BF 8153. One aircraft possibly shot down. One man killed (Mtr.Gfr. Ferdinand Brunnbaur) and several seriously wounded. Have begun return passage.

B-Dienst Report:
a) On 20 June, the RAF initiated shuttle bombing, where planes departed home fields to bomb Germany, re-armed in Africa, then bomb Italian targets en route back to Britain. The first of these raids targeted Friedrichshafen, Germany.
b) On 20 June, Auxiliary Aircraft Carrier USS Bogue (CVE-9) arrived at Norfolk, Virginia, with survivors of U 118 (XB; KrvKpt. Werner Czygan), sunk on 12 June, west of the Canary Islands, by eight Avenger aircraft of USS Bogue (43 dead and 16 survivors). Task Group 21.12 was dissolved and made eligible for European-African-Middle Eastern Area Engagement Star E207. This sortie was one of six Bogue sortie's singled out in a Presidntial Unit Citation.

Cmdr.: Right after reaching the shipping lane, we run into a large tanker. Too bad, we were too far off for an attack and that the steamer was too fast for us to be able to maneuver into attack position.

1315 - Outgoing F.T.: To B.d.U.:
Reached Steamer Route Cape Town - South America and at 1209 sighted Tanker 9165ts, on course 254°, speed 19kn, Qu.4648GR. Broke off pursuit due to high speed of tanker. Still have 4 eels and 465cbm.
