GERMAN SURFACE UNITS: PART I

German battlecruiser "Moltke". Together with her sister "Goeben" she presented a major threat to British shipping at the outbreak of the war. Modern-day historians generally agree that she & the other German BC's were superior to their Royal Navy counterparts in terms of armor, underwater protection, & gunnery. These images show the model's parts together in Wings3d; the subcomponents will be imported individually.

German battleship "Helgoland". The "Helgoland" and her sisters mounted 12 12" guns in a distinctive diamond-shaped layout. They were easily identifiable due to their three funnels. Later battleships tended to have superfiring turrets instead of "wing" turrets, which reduced the available broadside. At "Jutland" several ships of this class destroyed HMS "Black Prince" during the night action after she blundered into the High Seas Fleet battle line. All four members of the class survived the war; "Ostfriesland" was destroyed off the US coast postwar as a target for land-based bombers.
