From O.K.W.:
a) Report about progress of Operation Citadelle (Battle of Kursk). In the north of the Kursk salient, on Central Front, the Russians launched a counter-attack, throwing in three tank corps. But it foundered on former Soviet minefields which the our 9th Army had reinforced, and the Soviets instead took up fixed positions to act as a breakwater against a renewed German assault. In the South, the advance of our 4th Pz.-Army continued.

From B.d.U.:
a) U 181 (IXD2; KrvKpt. Wolfgang Lüth) is to have freedom of action S. of 16° S. and W. of 70° E.
b) The following will supply from "Milkcow" U 487 , from 1000/9/7 in DF 6882: U 195 (IXD1; KrvKpt. Heinz Buchholz) for return passage at most economical speed., U 598, 406, 604, 662 and 591 35 cbm each and provisions for 7 days.
c) All boats proceeding S. have again been reminded of the order for most economical fuel consumption outside the areas particularly endangered by aircraft. There is so little traffic in all the operational areas that the desired success can only be achieved after a long period in the operations area. Only few boats can supply on return passage owing to the shortage of tankers.
d) At 0800/8/7 U 558 (Kptlt. Günther Krech) will hand over to U 455 (Kptlt. Hans-Martin Scheibe) in CG 5715 cipher memoranda Triton-M, Officers and General, for July and August.
