I suggest you start reading Neal Stevens post #1 starting with
Subsim's recommended modding etiquette (please read these guidelines)

you can start by opening up mod files using a syntax editor or notepad and
try to make sense of how it all works by looking into other mods to see how
they did it. like everyone else.

you may want to start reading the [TEC] threads

you may have to use google..
this is very good advice

this is not true, please do not sell this community short with such comments

while people may not be contacting you unsolicited asking if they can teach you, when you post asking for help in the forums they will be very helpful and willing to go out of their way to take the time to teach you what they know or tell you where to find the info that will teach you what you need to know.

people here on these forums will help you to learn and always be willing to share what they know about the game.

this website has the most helpful and unselfish people I have even met on any forum. they will take the time to respond and teach you what they know because they were treated that way when they learned to mod. passing it on to the next guy is the best way to repay the community that gave so much to us from the beginning.

but.... as I think iyiskipper was trying to say is that YOU have to be willing to make the effort and do the work needed to find your own answers and not expect others to do things for you.
(even though they sometimes might be willing to do that to help you out)

It's an old game now & not many Sh4 moders left hanging around to answer them.

Gluck.
for the most part this is true but if you are stuck, posting in the forum is the best and most likely way to get a reply to your question since many older modders aren't around to respond to a PM message.

more often if no one responds its because they don't understand the question or they don't know how to make the changes someone is looking for. lots of things on peoples "wish lists" cant be done because they are either hard coded or no one has figured it out yet.
