That's Hollywood drama for you. There's little to no evidence that gates of the sort even existed on Titanic. Also, interviews of surviving 3rd class passengers come out with nothing about locked gates.

Another thing that Hollywood (and many articles) make it look like it was because there was not enough lifeboats that caused the large number of victims. While it is true that there weren't enough boats, it was the chaos and lack of trained crew that slowed the lowering of the lifeboats. Titanic sank before even those boats that it carried had all been launched.
