There were many instance's of Sub v. Sub mostly surface engagements,
using normal torpedo's. some misses some success' and possibly a good counter attack or two.

There is an instance of a Brit Sub sinking a submerged
uboat in the atlantic with shots taken based solely on hydrophone bearings.

Also although the nineteen inch homer was too slow there were
several German acoutstic's that would suffice for the task.
within certain depth limits. But technical development was active
on all side's it seems to me that had the typeXXI gone mainstream
that the allies would have been compelled to make deep diving homers,
which I feel weren't beyond there technical capability.

a towed array wasnt that big a leap either.
