USS Balao in silent running...approaching a small convoy...
Six torpedoes in the water....two per ship...
These two exploded simultaneously...
And these two left torpedo tubes 5 and 6 few moments ago...Men are just counting the seconds...
We looked through the periscope and saw three medium cargos in flames...one already going down...
It was a real must to try get rid of at least one of those...unfortunately the last torpedo missed,but the first two did find the victim...
All men standing on the aft died instantly...
When the crew on another destroyer saw what happend,they increased the speed immediately to ged rid of the torpedoes coming from the left...
They were trying to find us,but...we were already some 1.5 mile away from them in silent running,leaving the area with four ships on the bottom...another succes on the score list of USS Balao...all men were working on 110%...Captain thanked them personally...
Next day two planes appeared,approaching quickly...Only Warder,Gallagher and Murphy know the best their jobs...
