Here's a list of ships that are NOT in SH4, and which extant SH4 classes should be used to substitute for them. The ship NOT in SH4 is on the left, the suggested replacement on the right. Number in parenthesis is the number in the class if I put it there at all. Obviously, open to suggestion for changes.

CV(L) (distinction between CV/CVL in IJN is hard)
Akagi = Shokaku (cause it's big)

Kaga = Shokaku (cause it's big)

Unryo = Hiryu (which should be called "Soryu" Class, but isn't, but that's another thread)
Amagi= Hiryu
Katsuragi= Hiryu

Hiyo = Taiho?
Junyo = Taiho?

CVL/E
Shoho = Taiyo
Zuiho = Taiyo

Ryuho = Taiyo

Hosho = Taiyo

Shinyo = Taiyo

Kaiyo = Taiyo

Chiotse (after january 1944 when she was converted to a CVE) = Taiyo
Chiyoda (after Dec '43 CVE conversion) = Taiyo

(note I exclusively used Taiyo as a CVE(L) for aesthetic reasons vs Akitsu Maru)

IJ ARMY "Carriers" Really "plane ferries." (these should all be reset to zero air groups since planes flew off ONCE to land bases)
Nigicu Maru = Akitsu Maru

Shimane Maru = Akitsu Maru

Otakisan Maru = Akitsu Maru

Yamashiro Maru = Akitsu Maru

Chigusa Maru = Akitsu Maru

Kumano Maru = Akitsu Maru

Myoko Class (4) = Takao

Mogami Class in game need to have early war version bashed. Maya maybe if you want pre-Midway.

Tone Class (2) = Mogami? (needs a bash, badly)

Oyodo (Class ship was only ship) = Agano

Nagara Class (6) = Kuma

Tenryu Class (2) = Naka

Yubari (1)= Akizuki DD? (she was only 3500 tons)

Katori Class (3) = Large Minelayer? (Katoris were training CLs that made all of 18 knots. A real POS.)

DD
Kamikaze Class (9) = Minekaze (was improved version)

Akatsuki Class (4) = Fubuki (visually similar, not sure but looks like improved Fubuki)

Hatsuharu Class (6) = Shiratsuyu (looks like Shiratsuyu was maybe an improved Hatsuharu)

Kagero Class (19) = Asashio (Kagero was an improved Asashio, visually almost identical)

Yugumo Class (19) = Asashio (Yugumo was an improved Kagero)

Shimakaze (1) = Akizuki

DE (*not a really an IJN distinction, Matsu was really a small DD)
Matsu Class (32) = ? (use Mutsuki, but limit speed to 28 knots max)

PC (subchaser (different than the in-game one! 64 built total)
Sub CH-13 for all right now.

Kaibokan
Sorely lacking, they are 2x CH-13 in size, 1/2 Minekaze's size. No idea. needs a bash.

Best idea is either a cloned Minesweeper, a bash, or resetting Minesweepers to be "patrol" boats so they will act like escorts.
