Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) staff told Punchbowl early Thursday that he was pressing forward with another Speaker vote Thursday – but the site later reported that Jordan is out.
Jake Sherman said that Jordan isn't doing a third ballot and he will put his support behind Patrick McHenry as an interim speaker until January 2024. Thursday morning, he said, former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Reps. Jordan, Tom Cole (R-OK) and Tom Emmer (R-MN) met briefly to discuss other options.
Over the past 48 hours, House Republican members revealed they were receiving threats for refusing to support Jordan.
Multiple officials are detailing death threats and other intimidation they've faced for opposing Jim Jordan's speakership bid.
There were also reports of pressure on members through their spouses, which angered other members.
Jordan has now gone through two bruising ballots for the speakership, with many Republicans voting against him.
