0036 - Qu.5443GR top right - FuMB Detection (Magic Eye) in 62°true. Shortly after Sunderland sighted, E=5000, direct approach, machine gun fire, going to A.K. 3 bombs behind the boat.

0037 - After the fly-over, "ALARM!". At T=35, 3 bombs and at A-Meter another two.

It is assessed that the boat sustained 5% hull damage (7% accumulation since leaving BDX): 7% => 93% of 230m = 213.9m safe max. diving depth).

0105 - Submerged cruise at A-20, 96rpm.

0253 - At Reception Depth. Battery 94.5%; Compressed Air Supply 280Atü; CO₂ 1.3%.

0257 - Qu.5427GR - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 2h 20min. and 6.8nm. Weather and Sea unchanged; Visibility 4.8nm.

0258 - Boat ventilated.

0336 - Qu.5428GR - FuMB-Warning (no Magic Eye) in 40°true, E=15500. One minute later an airplane in 15°true, on course WSW, E=8000, crosses the boats port beam at a distance of 6200m. Boat remains surfaced.

0428 - Qu.5429GR center right - "ALARM!" for Sunderland in 303°true, E=6200, direct approach, no FuMB-Warning (also, no Magic Eye). At T=18, 3 bombs off to Stbd., and at A-10 another one - no damages.

0501 - Submerged cruise at A-20, 96rpm.

0647 - At Reception Depth. Battery 87%; Compressed Air Supply 280Atü; CO₂ 1.4%.

0653 - Qu.5437GR - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 2h 25min. and 6.5nm. Weather and Sea unchanged.

0658 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled. 2xH.F.

0813 - Qu.5436GR - Right after the watch change, FUMB-Warning (no Magic Eye) in 30°true, E=11000. Boat remains surfaced.

0858 - Qu.5514GR - FUMB-Warning (no Magic Eye) in 287°true, E=13500 - is located in Qu.5436 center right.

0900 - Still dark. Airplane sighted in 315°true, E=6000 on course East, passes our port beam at at distance of 4600m (doesn't seem to have radar installed). Boat remains surfaced.

1502 - Qu.5377GR bottom center - FuMB-Warning (Magic Eye), shortly after a twin-engine A/C (Avro Anson?) is sighted in 121°true, E=3600, direct approach; turning with A.K. toward the approaching airplane, machine gun fire from but no bombs.

1503 - After the fly-over "ALARM!". Just before closing the C/T-hatch, another airplane (Consolidated) is sighted in 97°true, E=6000. At T=25 about 4 Wabos to Stbd., concussions. At A-Meter another 2 Wabos - no damages.

1507 - Boat remains submerged, going on course 75°.

Cmdr.: The last 10 1/2 hours we did not encounter any airplanes, and now about 38nm off Cape Town, we are attacked by two at the same time. Unfortunately, our presence is now known and this shipping lane will be closed.

1632 - Qu.5378GR bottom left - FuMB-Warning in 131°true, E=13500 and at 1633 also, by Magic Eye.

1634 - Compressed Air Supply is filled, two airplanes are sighted approaching the boat, one in 131°true, E=10000 and another in 102°true, E=7000 - "ALARM!".

1636 - At A-Meter 1 bomb and again 2 at 1638 and another 2 at 1640, each time further astern - no damages.

1653 - Submerged cruise at A-20, 96rpm, on course 80°.

1741 - At Reception Depth. Battery 81.5%; Compressed Air Supply 260Atü; CO₂ 1.2%.

1744 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 1h 10min. and 3.2nm. - Weather and Sea unchanged; Water Depth 211m.
