Is there only one ending? The blurb I got was basically taking up a desk job (finally) then becoming a wealthy industrialist and writing memoirs.

Yes, that is it. Unfortunately, like many aspects of the sim, devs were quite lazy with the ending. If was not a hard coded thing, would change it.
