Two bought at the local 'Spar' today: "Goose IPA" (355ml) from the USA and "Punk IPA" (330ml) brewed & bottled in Scotland; both a very pale yellow colour
The "Goose" (an award-winner at the Great American Beer Festival) tastes almost exactly the same as the
Gold Hobgoblin I reviewed recently... except more bitter. It has an extremely hoppy smell, too.
"Punk", on the other hand, smells distinctly of
grapefruit, and is less bitter, i.e. it has some sweetness which takes this down quite a bit, without reducing the breadth of flavour. It has less of a frothy head on it than the 'Goose'
Moira didn't keep the receipt, but it would seem that the US beer was £2.25, reflecting its import status, and the Scottish ale was £1.95 or £1.99... quite pricey for small bottles but this probably reflects the convenience store price-point
