Get yourself
Audacity (unless you've got a similar app on your computer), and get the recording side set-up to record a microphone. Even a cheap, little 1/8" plugged mic will do, since you're going to make a recording that will sound like it came across the internal comm device in a sub (squackbox). Record your audio line "durchlaufende thermische schicht" (or whatever) and save it as "Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT.wav" at 705kbps (44.1kHz Mono) 16-bit Windows wave file. You could either make a mod for JSGME (safest way), for like "ThermalLayer \ Data \ Sound \ Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT.wav" and activate it with JSGME, or backup the original file first, and then just copy the new one you made into the same location...
Edit: Forgot to mention, I don't think the German boats had anything like the US Fleet Boat's bathythermograph, and had to rely upon a thermometer against the side of the boat... I might be wrong there, but I do know that the Japanese boats didn't even have that...
