I have a technical question about the Regulus, 1961 mission

I know that the "Snorkel" was invented in the end of WWII and I expected that after the war even the American subs would have this thing on their subs.

Have played about 20 hrs after some hours playing I send my sub to pd the batteries keep on going down.
