I was recently loaned a DVD copy of a film by Kevin Duffus titled
War Zone: WWII Off North Carolina's Outer Banks. It's largely an account of Operation Drumbeat and successive U-boat operations from the perspective of Outer Banks residents, and it focuses more on the home front as opposed to a military or naval operations view of U-boat activities off the U.S. coast in 1942. Amazon.com lists the DVD as being discontinued, but it is apparently still available from at least one retail source:

The DVD was published by Looking Glass Productions, Inc. in Raleigh, NC (

The film uses a lot of big band or swing tunes as a backdrop, so be warned. The DVD apparently combines the content of two VHS tapes that had been previously available.
I enjoyed the DVD both as a sub sim fan, and as a native of NC.
