Crash to desktop when near convoy?

It seems that in my game when I get near convoys the game crashes to desktop randomly
And I cant seem to figure out why, I'm just using regular Onealex mod, with a few things I added like Sound files and replaced a map PNG but thats it :k_confused:

Two of the main reasons this would happen are:
- a pc without enough memory.
- a game unit (ship, plane, etc.) that is being spawned that does not have it's files in the player's game at all or incompletely.
Maybe check there first and post your complete mod list.

Yes it happened to me too few times.
And I don’t have a real crap system …
No other mods than Onealex ones.
I gave up recently, and re-launched my fantastic NYGM set up :)
(Wich is even better now)

Yes, one of the great things with NYGM is it's stability.

The memory is for sure not the problem as I'm running on 32gb of pretty decent RAM
So I guess its the second thing
The mods I have on (aside from using Onealex) are:
Das Boot Music
Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71
New Water (Blue Atlantic)
ImprovedWaveTextures
CapZap1970 - IXB-C OS Deep Blue
Seafloor texture 2048 X 2048
Units without ponytails

Well yes I meant TGA but I wrote this when I was super tired lmao

I would bet it is Rbs_SH4.....71 that is the problem. Lots of ship files in there, only takes one file in all those to be incorrect or missing.
When that ship(s) spawns...........ctd.
Try running it without that and the CapZap mod. If it works after that try one then the other to narrow it down.

Hi Halogen you could try the 4Gig Patch if you dont have it installed already see if that stops CTD

https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/dow...o=file&id=5737

This very little tool patches x86 executables in order to let them have 4GB (instead of only 2) of virtual memory on x64 platforms. This tool comes very handy for applications which need a great amount of virtual memory like games, 3D renderization, multimedia etc. To gain these 2GB, you just have to use this tool to patch the executable (*.exe file) of the software you want to have these additional GBs of virtual memory. It can be used by clicking on it and choosing the file or through command line (e.g.: “4gb_patch file.exe”). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable.

Why things are this way on x64 is easy to explain. On x86 applications have 2GB of virtual memory out of 4GB (the other 2GB are reserved for the system). On x64 these two other GB can now be accessed by 32bit applications. In order to achieve this, a flag has to be set in the file’s internal format. This is, of course, very easy for insiders who do it every day with the CFF Explorer. This tool was written because not everybody is an insider, and most probably a lot of people don’t even know that this can be achieved.

Yeah Onealex comes with that already in the game files supposedly but I also did it myself just to make sure

What did you change in your NYGM setup?

Plenty things cosmetic & eye candy… carefully avoiding to break anything from Stiebler original settings.

Could be the way you saved in the game too, I've had issues at times in the past with convoys and game saves but ever since following these save rules I haven't had a corrupt patrol in almost a year of playing SH3. Also i have two save files, one during the patrol every 24 hrs approx and one I use to save and exit to continue a patrol another day in the week and if one somehow gets corrupt then usually the other one before works.

Good practices to ensure a stable save:
1. Never save while submerged.
2. Never save around any ship/airplane within 25km.
3. Never save within 50 km of a sunken ship.
4. Never save while gramophone music is playing.
5. Never save during torpedo loading or repairs.
6. Never use Alt + TAB during a patrol.
7. Never scroll to far east into Russia in NAV map or will cause CTD (only notice this in Onealex mod)
8. Only save/exit game in NAV map or command room view.

That 2048x2048 seafloor texture mod will use up a lot of resource too for something you will rarely see unless in shallow waters. Its the reason Onealex took out the seafloor and fauna mod as it was causing fps drops etc.

Install the 4gb patch if you havent done it yet
Reducing particles to <30% worked for me, I had a problem when my torpedo hit the ships in the convoy it would crash to desktop reducing the particle density solved this problem for me

:salute:
