Advice on U-Boat Model

So it's been a while since I've been here, but i've submerged once again, with questions.

I picked up Revell's lovely Type VII D U-boat last week, and will be tackling it sometime this week.

It looks easy enough, but has anyone else built one? Or just some general modelling tips would be great (i'm only used to 28mm wargaming, hardly suitable for sub modelling)

Any help would be great, thanks.

Type VII D from revell presents no real problems for the modeler. Similar to VII C from the same stable, being the new kit it sports nicely injected sprues, good fit, and lovely detail. It is basicaly the same kit as VIIC, but slightly longer in order to fit the mine compartment. I know of people, who used to cut open the hull, discard the mine section, and make the VIIC version, before the real VIIC hit the shops late last year.
I have done this model once, and it is the nicest 1/144 you can get your hands on.
You can even buy some aftermarket stuff for it now, like PE.

Heres the conning tower after some enhancements:

Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the information Siara. I don't know if i'll attempt any fine details, being a relative newbie to this sort of modeling, and i'll probably leave the PE stuff for the next one (I think i'll definately look at the Type VII C kit, or maybe a Gato)

And I'll be honest, I should have looked at the box a bit closer - I didn't realise it was a Minelaying vessel, but, after reading up on them, they're pretty interesting.

I'll post some pics when I have some progress.

Hi,

Definetly post some pics, as i'll be building the 1/144 (VIIC) soon.

Thanks,

Dan.
