I have so much trouble going down the hatch I now stay in the conning tower on the attack scope. that way I can suface at night and dive in the day with out running all over the place. i keep watch with the attack scope.narrow view though.but i don't get myself caught on the suface. It'l have to do until i get better or a mod comes along.[i do practice in safe waters]

Good question.... ummm.....???
You cant. :nope:

A work around is you secure the gun. and if you can't secure the gun, then ummmm....

Dive.

:haha:

Surfacing will unman the deck gun, even though you're already surfaced.

Looks like a deal. I will try this next time. Thanks!

Hi, I can not figure out how to dive or surface to a specific depth. The only options I have are "v" for dive to 40 m, another button to crash dive, a periscope depth "r?" and an option for surface. I don't see how to click on a random depth of say, 60 m. I noticed some of ya'lls screenshots had a green bar under the depth number at teh bottom left of the screen. I do not see that green bar. Any suggestions? Thanks

Press the "control" key when selecting the depth

Thank you Sergi, this drove me nuts this evening. Hopefully in the remainder of this patrol I can get the chance to try this as you say.
But this evening, I run into an unescorted convoy and had a hey day and sank five ships, used up all torpedos and then tried to get WO to man the deck gun but to no avail, F5 no workie either.
Only way I could get it manned was to go down and jump on it myself. Then went back up and then could not figure how to get them to target and fire. Nothing I tried did a thing so I ended up manning it myself and did all the firing. That at least got me familiar with shooting it. I took out three ships with it, but never did get the crew to do it.

But next time I'll give this binoc thing a try, I wouldnt have guessed.
I just kept trying using the UZO and the ship was locked with it, but no teddy bear, the crew just remained still.

I got the same issue, i stand on the bridge, order my XO to man the deck gun, nothing hapens. No crew manning it. then when i look true the binoculars. i can't control it. i have to go down to the deck and man the gun myself to shoot it. anybody got an idea how to solve it. or does it maybe take a couple of minuts before the gun is manned?

When looking through the binoculars at the target, press the space bar as if to "lock" the target. The gun will then fire. In fact you don't need to request "man the deck gun" this way.

That is probably due to the morale bug. After a save and reload the game will reset your morale points to zero.
Manning the deck gun 'costs' you 1 morale point. If the game has zeroed out your morale points they just refuse to do their bloody jobs!
I'm using one of the morale fix mods, that set the cost of essential jobs to zero, so the crew will still do their jobs even if the game has magicked away all your morale points.

Try this.

Arrr, but thats what didnt make any sense though mate. the entire crew's morale was extremely high as we had just sunk three ships and having used up all remaining torpedos, I came to the surface to finish off the rest of them with the gun as I hadn't used it yet this patrol, seas were plenty calm for it, and had plenty of ammo. And I even checked on morale just before sufacing. But no matter what I tried even though the WO responded and ordered the gun manned nothing happened.
Later on though, after I had manually manned it, which put two men on it I had the HUD on, and noticed a deckgun icon appeared in the upper right of the screen, where other icons of one kind or another has also, like the "we are underwater" one, and special abilty icons as well.
I hit F5 and it dissapeared as did the deck gun crew, hit it again and the icon came back on and again I hit F5 and it dissapeared then after that it wouldnt work fo nothing. And still the crew's morale was as high as ever, and still could not get that icon to reappear.

This and the fact that I did not know of course that to get the deck gun crew to target and fire upon a vessel that it was the binoculars that I needed to use to do this as you pointed out. I was trying everything else but that.
The whole fiasco made no sense what so ever. Well I tell ya, im still wanting to wait out the devs to see what they patch and fix, and surely this is one they will address cause it's surely a bug.
The only way I was able to take out those remaining ships was shooting that gun myself. Which was fun, and I got the job done and learned to aim and fire the thing in the process I'd sure love to have been able to have stayed up on the bridge and watched as my very highly moraled crew did the work they were here for.
This is just one more thing that has taken a turn wayyyy south of what SH3 was. That was one thing about SH3 that I always loved, was that very obedient and respectful crew. When you gave an order it was "YES SIR! And they got to it.
This time around it's the complete opposite, and I think I'd rather just throw the lot of them overboard cause so far I've had to do everything myself. Hell they aint even good for conversation.:88)

Yes if the devs dont come up with a patch soon, im going to go and install some of these mods. I've downloaded a few, and did what one fellow instructed how to do on the depth under keel command(was quite simple and done it myself.)
But I just want to wait out at least the next patch before I start modding the heck out of it, even though it's clear it needs it badly before I shoot the entire crew and run this boat alone, cause I feel thats what im doing now.
Ok, I've rattled on here, I just wanted to thank you Sergi for that tip on using the bincular's cross and space bar to get the deck crew to do thier job and fire. I'd have found this somewhow by accident eventually I suppose but damn there is nothing about that in the manual, or in the on scenn instructions that keep trying to appear even though they aren't any help.

this one realy help !!!

[QUOTE=gerwim;1300535]Hi Michael,

Thanks! I went to one of their docks and shot the **** out of some ships! :arrgh!:. Got only 1 warship on my tail which I sunk aswell. Problem with the game are the crashes, and indeed some kind of TC bug which makes my boat sink.. (it's going through the walls and on land.. grr).

To other newcomers: watch this movie, it helped me alot! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6In78H5RyQ

To Gerwim

This one realy help me.... I thank you very much.

Well Sergi, that did the trick on the deck gun. Yup, hit space while the crosshair was red in the binocs, that marked the ship for deck gun targeting and also manned the gun and then they started firing.
Sure was better than trying to go through that good for nothing WO.
Was a pretty good show.
Then also hitting space again had them to hold fire.:yep:
Well now to get back to a port to resupply, now I assume for this it can be any friendly port correct? I figure Hegloland if that'll do instead of going all the way in to Wilhemshaven.
