Fiction Sub/Naval books.

Looking for some good ones to add to my collection. I'd prefer WW2, Cold War, or Modern.

I have:
SSN
Silent Service Seawolf Class
Submarine U-137
Red Storm Rising
Hunt for Red October

I think that is it. :hmmm:

Sailor Steve 08-08-12 12:01 AM

Das Boot
Run Silent, Run Deep (and its sequels)
Up Periscope
Pride Runs Deep
On The Beach

That's just off the top of my head.

Dust on the Sea (1972), further WWII patrols,
and Cold is the Sea (1978), set in 1961 aboard a nuclear sub.

Supposedly CITS includes some of his experiences transitioning to nuclear boats. He was the CO of USS TRITON when she did the first submerged circumnavigation.

I picked up 'To Kill The Potemkin' yesterday which is supposed to be good.

DiMercurio is usually entertaining.

Oberon 08-11-12 07:25 AM

Nimitz Class
Kilo Class
HMS Unseen

All by Patrick Robinson, they are quite good reads and better than his later work.

Onkel Neal 08-11-12 08:19 AM

Check out the novels of Joe Buff and Michael DiMercurio and this.

Lots of great material here: SUBSIM Book Reviews

Great list here at Armchair General

I strongly recommend some of the best non-fiction works, if you have not already read:
War Fish
Wahoo
Clear the Bridge

And Subsim's best kept secret: Diary of a U-Boat Commander, a public domain book published by that guy who calls himself Neal Stevens :88)

Have you already picked up the Subsim Almanac, Vol I and Vol II ??? What? No?? Come on, man!

Definitely pick up a copy of Iron Coffins, it's really good, better than fiction (and some say has some fictional elements).

How good are the rest of Buff's novels? I only read Crush Depth and honestly thought it was kinda retarded with all the nukes going off all the time.

Typhoon by Mark Joseph

Typhoon by Robin White

Boomer by Charles D. Taylor

Dangerous Ground by Larry Bond

I'm going to say Cold Choices by Larry Bond, too. It is the sequel to Dangerous Ground. I have both, but haven't read Cold Choices yet. I really enjoyed Dangerous Ground.

TLAM Strike 08-11-12 11:28 PM

I enjoyed P. T. Deuterman's Scorpion in the Sea and The Edge of Honor.
