SH2 screen cut off at 1024x768

New here, very pleased to be a part of the community.

My post is about an issue with Silent Hunter II (2).

Installing either the Pacific Aces mod or even just the high resolution pack, and setting the resolution at 1024x768 unfortunately results in the bottom right part of my screen been cut off.

By the way, to be able to run exe the 1024conf.exe program (and set the resolution at 1026x768), I had to locate MSVBVM50.DLL online and include it in the game folder manually.

I am at Windows 10 64-bit and cannot correct the problem by trying various compatibility settings.

I would love to play SH2 at a resolution higher than 800x600, any help would be appreciated.

With my very best regards from Athens, Greece!

It has been too long since I attempted to run SH2 and DC at 1024x768, but it seems to me that if you are on a widescreen (16:9) or larger, then you might have issues... For the life of me, I cannot remember which file you have to edit the "Properties" of, but the screen is drawing 'zoomed-in', and you need to have it NOT zoom... If you are on a hi-rez display, and have Wiindows at 125% zoom, you could temporarily disable that. There is also a way to "window" the game display, but I cannot remember how to do that... If I can find my old install, I'll try to transfer it to one of my newer computers, but don't hold your breath. Perhaps someone else will come along that has used that... Does the regular game not do that at it's "native" 800x600?? :salute:

Plenty of tips to try, thank you!

You are absolutely right - I run my Windows 10 at 125% zoom.

Didn't understand if you were asking me, but in way of confirmation, vanilla SH2 runs fine at a 800x600 resolution.

So does Pacific Aces by the way, thus I can at least run the mod at 800x600.

Hi, I personally run "1024conf" in SH2 via JSGME.

I install "1024conf" on my computer, copy the installed program to a separate folder named "1024x768". Delete the installed program from your computer and put what I copied into Silent Hunter II\MODS. Next, activate it in JSGME.

After activation, the file "1024conf" will appear in the Silent Hunter II folder. I launch it, select the 1024x768 resolution and select "Apply" and "Exit". After that, I log into the game and everything works as it should (Windows 10 x 64)

Maybe someone will be interested. I created a small mod for SH2. It cleans the navigation map from the texture of the paper.

I thank you, but could not follow your instructions as to what to copy where.

At my end, I installed the hi res pack (SubsimHighResComb_11SP1.exe) into the SH2 folder, and then activated the 1027x768 resolution via 1024conf.exe. This is what resulted in the cut off screen.

Same with the Pacific Aces mod. I can only play it up to a resolution of 800x600.

How can I get a copy of JSGME for SH2? And how I do I install the hi res pack as a mod?

Please forgive me if the issues I face are due to my inexperience.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I was running Windows 10 64-bit at 125% the size of apps and text on the main display.

Going into Settings > Ease of Access, and setting that back to 100% makes SH2 display at 1024x768 properly.

Thank you both very much for your time!

BTW I am preparing a version of the SH2 manual with much better formatting for use on a cell phone (and some language issues corrected). As soon as I have it ready, I will post a download link in SUBSIM.

Congratulations on your successful solution to this problem!) I will be waiting for a guide on SH2 from you)

I’ll try to find time and write you a personal letter about your questions)

I appreciate the time you take to write back. Your courtesy has made me feel welcome in this first interaction of mine with the SUBSIM community.

The guide will be awesome for those of us who still play SH2 and would like to have a handy copy of the manual on our cell phones! I've found that reading those interesting submarine simulation manuals is often its own gratification.
