New subsim meeting???

Are we going to have a subsim meeting anytime soon?:hmm: Since the dollar is worthless, I say we have one here in the US....

@Ranchero Subsimo? Texas plane tickets are cheap....:hmm:

@any cool naval parks....:hmm:

Subsim superbowl party....:hmm:

Nah this time it's again EU, last one was Texas :D

We should seriously consider a meeting in Germany :hmm:, that would make it easier for me to go there, I'm really really willing to attend one but the US is too far away for me.

Kapitan_Phillips 10-20-07 03:53 AM

Awww maaaan, I'll be in America by then! Georgia

Last meeting was Amsterdam, in 2005. In 2004 it was US and 2003 it was London.

Drebbel and I were discussing this. We have a meeting targeted for Europe in 2009, which will coincide with a "unique event" that every subsimmer will want to participate in. So, for 2008, we will liekly plan one for the summer in the US, either in Houston or if another US Subsim member wants to manage and host it, another city in the US with a sub museum.

Hosting a meeting means you will be responsible for helping members find hotels and rooms, arranging the entertainment and events, and picking up people from the airport. It's a good idea to find another guy or two in the area to help you host it, like the Dutch did in the '05 Amsterdam meeting--there were 4 or 5 co-hosts at that one; Bluebeard and Angel, Dargo and Yvonne, Drebbel and Sharky, and of course, Abraham.

If we have it in Houston, I can set up my home like a barracks, as I did in 2004. This will allow 5-8 people to save hotel money and stay here, and I also provided transportation for 5, and other local members can help with that, so your cost to attend the meeting is only the airfare (dollar is cheap), and entertainment.

I've never been to Houston, or even spent much time in Texas for that matter.... I can see pigging out on Tex-Mex. :smug:

Houston would be cool. I want to have tacos with Neal again.

There's tons of cool stuff to see, central location, Neal's house is close to the airport (Hobby)?

San Fransisco would be neat, but a little spendy, maybe we would sleep on the Pampanito....:hmm: Bring the laptops, play DW on a real sub...

Plus since Neal is from Houston, and ZZ Top is from Houston....:hmm: :hmm:

nikimcbee 10-20-07 12:39 PM

Hey, if we do one, who would go....
or who would you want to see/meet?

Kapitan_Phillips 10-20-07 05:13 PM

Neal, it really takes alot of dedication to open up your home to people from a forum. If I can get to Texas for this meeting, you bet your butt I'll be there, along with the Subsim Angel :D

Hi Neal! Sounds interesting, can you post any details about the event?

Onkel Neal 10-21-07 12:53 PM

No firm details yet, but if we stage it, the event will be 3-4 days, starting on a Thursday. It could include a night on the Cavalla submarine, a tour of the Battleship Texas and/or Lone Star Flight Museum, some Tex-Mex like Bill suggested, Bar-b-que on the Stevens Ranch (not my house, the real ranch), some firearm practice, and possibly a special guest or two. Pretty much the same agenda that we covered in 2004, unless the attendees request some new/different activities. I have some other things in mind, such as a group paintball fight or horseback riding, even fishing.

Too bad there are no new A-list subsims under development, or we could could have another SH3-style screening. But who knows what the future holds ;)

thanks
Neal

Actually I meant the 2009 meeting in Europe! ;) Canīt come to the US meeting, too expensive... :(

Kapitan_Phillips 10-21-07 05:49 PM

Neal, you have a ranch?! How awesome is that?! :rotfl:

It'd be a bit of a drive to Houston from Barnesville, but I'd try. Could bring Frau_Phillips too :D Try and go for a summerish date if you could. College is out then ;)

How about a Subsim roadtrip?

Camaero 10-21-07 09:23 PM

I vote for a Texas meeting! Sounds like a nice road trip in the Camaro! I probably couldn't make it to any in Europe unfortunately.
