SH4 Ver 1.5 Uboat OBS periscope reticule

Hi all,

Can anyone help me?

I would like to change the reticule on the observation periscope to a plain verticle line in the centre of the scope. Has anyone done this or can anyone tell me how to do it? Failing this is it possible to delete the reticule altogether leaving just a plain scope? I only use the obsevation scope for initial spotting and surface checks so would prefer it clearer (verticle line just in case the attack scope gets damaged).

I forgot to mention it's for the type IX D2 in SH4 V1.5 Gold edition with no mod packs.

Thanks to all and a happy new year.

Ivan

1. If you have Photoshop, you can install the DDS plugin.
2. Find the DDS file for the periscope and make a backup copy.
3. Load the backup file to Photoshop.
4. Examine the five channels (three color and one alpha).
5. Fiddle with it until you figure out which channel(s) affect the reticule.
6. Make the changes.

The real trick comes when saving your modded file. I can't seem to find my notes on modding DDS files ... but I do remember the best "save" option is about the third or fourth one on the list. Otherwise, your modded file's resolution will be of a lesser quality than the original.

Finally, pull the original from where it's located, put it in a safe place, and substitute your mod. Then run the game and test it out. If it works, great. If not, give it another try. And remember what Thomas Edison said about Genius.

right, it's dds 3 the best option.

I was never able to delete the upper and left scales on the IJN scope, some of it seems hardcoded.. although you can change the reticle, that's for sure.
