considering how stock SH5 AI was/is a total joke I don't see them doing anything better. By all accounts considering how things are made in this world today it will be even worse :shifty: And since everything is kept on their servers there will be no way to fix it.

It would be nice to have the choice of either sailing around in an destroyer or an u-boat. :yep:

What I've read of the very slim list of features they've provided so far you're supposed to coordinate with your friends to attack convoys (ahistorically I might add since U-boats didn't coordinate any tactics past attacking a convoy all at once) and do some special mission like... escorting friendly ships (apparently now Raeder has adopted the Fleet Submarine doctrine of the 30s from the USN), and somehow that'll influence some dynamic war outcome.

Considering the fact that every single online game these days, especially the free to play genre, is aimed at painfully casual players I don't see how they would even bother to make the Ai in any way difficult. I also don't see how playing against facerolling easy AI is going to create any kind of satisfying dynamic effect. The only way I can see the players losing the war now is by them not having enough guys signed up to sink enough tonnage. XD

Frankly Silent Hunter is the stupidest game to make into a F2PMMO. It should basically have been Destroyer Command for WW2 and you play as either U-boat or Escort. 2 sides, adversarial. Now that would be interesting. All the Bungo Pete freaks could paste a "Walker" name tag to their shirts and go kick ass in the atlantic. If anything convoy escorts would be a friggin' incredible game to play as far as coordinating with your friends!

I'm curious to see a proper forum for this game with actual promised features to see if they is even a hope in hell that it'll make sense as a game (not that I'll pay for it either way).

I suspect like most nautical themed MMO's it will be groups of NPC of varying strengths just floating around and regularly re-spawning for XP, areas player safe and unsafe and with the dynamic campaign loosely based on WW II that will "Grow" via patches influenced by very little player activity. Possibly port flipping with 'x' amount of points and activities in the areas !

It will go the old route of an "Elite" group of players will own the server and make life difficult for anyone whom does not follow their ideal and "Behave" according to their unwritten rules !

That's how most MMO's go from my experience and this will be no exception !

You forgot to include the PvPers griping about not having the game (im)balanced to suit their desire to ambush and torment unsuspecting PvE players with impunity.

That is why I quit all of my MMO's. PvPers ruin everything. Our capacity for griping here is nothing compared to those people.

That's a pretty dismal look at the future.

Neal, my feeling is that SH Online is not a part of subsim's future. I think we are tuned to another channel.

not all MMOs end up like that and they are rare. the one i can name off the top of my head is star trek online which has been P4F for about a year now.

Is a chance that we will see SH2/DC mode at the new WarThunder game. There are no official info about subs in-game (playable ship in the future) but at the game info is the news that the DD is "a light warship designed mostly to fight against enemy submarines and aircraft".

See the last feature of WarThunder at their main game site: http://warthunder.com/en/game/features/

So the hope dies last.
:salute:

I'm pretty sure that I'll play ships at WarThunder before the SHO starts...

This looks great... ill be checking it out for sure.

I cannot be the only person that thinks all the flash based games are killing the hardcore gamers. Seems like no one is really trying to make a quality game. Its either flash or console.
