Suez in '44?
OK - It's crazy time. I've made it to 1944, been put in a new unit and ordered from France to a photo recon of Freemantle! Hard to believe, but ok I'll give it a shot. Question: Has any intrepid skipper ever tried the Suez? Unrealistic, but can it be done?

I made one attempt in op monsun in around late 1943. I kept my periscope up going through the canal at night and of course it got spotted. I was then pummeled at periscope depth by a battleship and died. Making it past gibraltar is difficult but it can be done, however I never made it past the entrance of the suez.

Mission Accomplished (yawn)
OK - Here's the update. It was a bear getting into the med, once there it was standard ops. Approached Suez Canal from the East, there are tributaries(?) that feed into the canal, decided to try those. Made it into the canal submerged, night fell and then ran on the surface the rest of the way south. Never saw another ship or plane until exiting the southern end. Could've served shrimp and cocktails on deck. So much for combat!:hmph:

Congrats, if you saw a half sunken IXC/40 on the way in it was probably the remains of my old U-804.:haha:
