IL-2 and SH3

These are some screens from an IL-2 1946 forum. It seems very similar to SH3 and both are from Ubisoft. They even use JSGME! I wonder if some content can be exchanged between the two. I might just have to buy it to find out! Anybody here have IL-2?

Great game, really enjoy it...

Not sure about the porting question as I've never looked into it, but perhaps someone will come along and fill us in.

I have IL2 from the beginning. It`s a great sim.

But it has been made by 1C company in Russia.

- JSGME is only used by players, you can use the tool in pretty much anywhere you want to, it's not game/application specific.

- The two use entirely different game engines, so don't except to get much if anything to work in SHIII. Atleast without considerable amount of work.

- AFAIK, the harbors in IL2 are more or less built by hand via the terrain editor, unlike in SHIII where "templates" are used (IIRC).

- IL2 was made by 1C, Ubisoft was the publisher.

-----------------

It's a good game, but I wouldn't advice to buy it just because you want to know if you can rip something off it to SHIII. :O:

It looks beautiful! And its only $10 now. Another way to sink allied shipping!

Thanks for the information Dowly. I'll probably pick up it for the flight sim aspects of course, not just to add content to SH3. Just would be nice to populate more land in SH3.

Yeah, it's a good bargain for $10. Even the stock IL2 1946 is great, add some *mods and vóila! :DL

*mods require changes to the game files that Oleg Maddox doesn't approve, so it is the Subsim.com policy not to provide links to IL2 modding sites or mods. (atleast, that's the last I heard :O:)

EDIT: Oh and in case you have missed it, Subsim.com has a flight sim forum, just scroll down until you see General Topics and then some. :salute:

I didnt see it. Perhaps a moderator can delete this thread.

Don't worry, I'm moving it to the flight sims forum

It's almost US$30.00 here in Asia.

ajrimmer42 04-18-11 03:38 PM

tbh I always thought the ships and water in IL2 looked a lot like SHIII

Well I still think Il-2 46 is the best overall WWII combat flight sim atm and encourage anyone to pick it up.

Il-2 CoD has potential but a lot of bugs need to be worked out-I myself can't run it without a video card upgrade to my 6 month old machine. :nope: I hope with soem patches and the additon of new theatres and such it will eventually overtake Il-2 46 for the overall experience of WWII air combat but as the old man in Das Boot said "not yet".

It's in worse shape than SH5 was on release.

As far as I'm aware, Ubi was just the distributor for IL2, they didnt develop it. And as both graphics engines are "in-house" developed by 2 different companies, I would doubt they are compatible.
