Could use some help here.

All my 1.3 Ver save games had to delete after upgrading to Ver 1.5.

Just started 1.5 today, in saying that I've sunk 2 merchant ships outside of my patrol area "NOT BY MUCH" and still says mission incomplete.

Down to 5 bow and 2 stern torpedos I have radioed three times now.

They say continue the mission which is sinking merchant ships.

yeah, the stock-version did not do a very good job letting players know what the actual, real objective was. so, in your use-case, the objective was some amount of tonnage which is unknown to you, which is not right: a captain should know his mission. but...what can you expect from Albanian programmers?

do your best and when you run out of ammo, you can either get to the nearest base, reload, and go back out to keep trying, or, return to base and end your mission.

So, your saying that I do not have to stay in the patrol area?

I believe you are correct.

Sunk 2 sampams and a merchant all outside the 50 MI zone and mission complete.

Everything maxed except Torpedo Targeting.

But I will get back there, I used to be able to do it 15 years ago.

Bit older than that now, learning curve MUCH steeper!

it depends.

there are several mission types (objectives) but two are used most often:
1. patrol mission
2. sink mission

the patrol mission has a specific time (in days) that you need to patrol WITHIN the patrol zone in order to get credit for completing the objective. if you meet/exceed the elapsed time of the objective, you can go and patrol any place you want. the problem is that the game normally does not tell you when you reach the patrol zone and it does not tell you whether the objective requires the patrol to be consecutive days or intermittent days. there are other details which i cannot remember at the moment. these missions can get really frustrating because of the objective info not shared with you.

the sink mission has a specific amount of tonnage that you must sink in order to get credit for completing the objective. Normally, you need to sail to a geographic point to start the objective and then you can go anywhere you want to sink ships.

Some of the mega-mods like, TMO and FOTRSU, have these missions rewritten to some degree and the information on the objectives are more transparent.

my advice: keep playing Stock or even GFO (Game Fixes Only to Stock 1.5) until you get good at it again. then try TMO (Trigger Maru Overhaul) or FOTRSU (Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate).
