shells.zon ammo numbers?

Installed Webster's deck gun mod and thought it was a bit over the top, so I increased the reload time and reduced the ammo storage a bit. One other thing I'd like to change is increasing the armor piercing power of the AP shells, but the numbers are giving me fits.

None of them have any description of what they are, I'm trying to mod a 3 inch AP and for all I know the one I've selected could be a 16 inch or a .177 BB to shoot Ralphie's eye out. I copied the numbers from the 3 inch 50 and 4 inch 50 to notepad, then went through all the numbers in shells.zon, can't find anything that matches the ID or parent ID numbers anyplace.

You're almost there!!

Inside the Data/Library folder, open the "Shells.dat" file. All the specific ammunition types are there. The 3_50 is found under the "88mm_" headings. The 4_50's are under the "105mm_" name. The 5_25 are under "5_25Inch_" group (go figure!). Follow the id's of the specific ammunition found in this file, to match the id's in the .sim files your looking in.

That 3_50 AP shell: ID=0x7cf440f1c98196cc........see if it isn't under the Parent ID of the node #32-33 of the Shells.zon file? :)

Thanks, sort of. Looks like 28 is 3-50 AP, 30 is 3-50 HE.

Not with my Gold Edition of the stock SH4 1.5 version. The 3_50 AP shell: ID=0x7cf440f1c98196cc is at the #32-33 node. There are 104 node's in the file (the 104th is the :END node).

Couple of things you should look at. Checking the Shells.zon file "Proprities"......when was the file "Modified"? Mine reads October 16, 2007 at 3:34pm.

Also, check your JSGME "Compare Snapshot" of your original game files. You did take a "Snapshot" of your cleanly installed game files didn't you before modding anything? Your original file snapshot should look like the one you have now (except for screen images you've taken that are in the main game folder; and the file named SI.bin, which is always added after running the game for the first time).

I haven't bought 1.5 yet, still chugging along with 1.4, so there was probably one or two more guns added to 1.5. I keep a virgin backup copy of the game patched to 1.4, got August 2004 for shells.dat and June 2005 for shells.zon.

Would have been a bit simpler if they had just added comments/labels in the shells.zon file, hey? :har:

Version 1.4 compared to 1.5? That explains the difference in the file.

Yes, it would be nice to have a map of what's what, but using the Shells.dat file (or any .dat file for that matter) sets up your ID's for the other files related to the .dat model object.

50 cal shells location

i realize that this is a 10 year old thread but it was the most appropriate one here.

in shells.dat, are the 2 pdr entries for the 50 cal machine gun?

Node: --------Shell: --------ParentId: -------------------Id: -----------------------Node in Shells.dat

2 ------------2pdr_AA ------0x7f6ddabdc98196cc --------0x8ddf41f95d5de9f0 -------194
4 ------------2pdr_AP ------0xf15ae9d9c98196cc --------0x8ddf41859bb40de0 ------190
6 ------------2pdr_HE ------0x240b417fc98196cc --------0x8fdd61870683c468 ------186

in all of the explanations shells.dat i have found, there are no entries for a 50 cal.

thanks.

In my SH4 install the .50cal machinegun (Deck_Gun_12mm_Browning.sim) uses 20mm AP ammo.

thank you!
i must admit that, although i understand the design aspects of the parent-child id's, when i get into the details, my eyes water and my head throbs.

Yes, head aches when having to find ID's in big files like that :D.

it took me a few minutes to get the lay-of-the-land with these files and decided i would test it out.
so, i slaved the 3"-50 cal cannon shells to the 12mm Browning and headed out to find some fishing boats or crab boats or something i could shoot at without drawing fire back.

oh man! (lol):D

if only i could get a 3/4/5 inch cannon to rapid fire like the Ma Deuce!:shucks:

THANK YOU for this.
my new secret weapon.:yep:
