JANUS Error Help

I keep getting this JANUS error when I try to play a created mission:

Wed Apr 3 12:59:00 2002
Error -1 [(!(pProfileUnit->Open()))]
DirectX code: "Unrecognized error: 0xffffffff"
\Projects\Ultimation\Janus2\WWII\Sources\WWIISWorl d.cpp
Line 1238

Can anyone help with a translation of what's wrong? Thanks for any assistance.

You may want to check out the Subsim archives at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=92806

There are multiple threads dealing with old JANUS issues there.

Thanks. I did look in the archives but could not find anything specific about what my problem is. Also, I started a new campaign and completed my first patrol and then saved. When I tried to continue the campaign the next day for my second patrol I get the same exact error message. Any help is appreciated.

Well there is more to create a mission that meets the eye, and frankly unless you are a very skill at making missions, you will have problems with the janus error, is something with the sim that is wrong, i remember a looooong time ago lots of people having the same problem, somebody came up with the solution to this problem, but i dont rember, there was a post in the sh2 forum that addreses this problem and fix it, sorry you have to look it up, cause i dont remember it well, but go there and you will find a solution there.
HOPE THIS HELP.

You're missing a Unit Definition File (.UDF) in Sim/Units. When the sim engine starts, it looks for all the Units in the Scenario Definition File (.SDF) so it can start processing them and lining everything up. Every unit in the .SDF must be found in the Sim/Units folder.

Projekt Messerwetzer ended all my Janus problems.

Are you using Kriegstanz and Kriegstanz Developer (KD)? It also works great with Pacific Aces:
Quote:

Kriegstanz is a random scenario generator for the Silent Hunter II and Destroyer Command naval warfare simulators. It creates missions that are largely unpredictable with a high degree of randomness. Players will find each generated mission to be vastly different from the previous one, more so than the limited randomness allowed in the one provided with the game.

Kriegstanz Developer (or KD for short) is a utility for creating, generating, editing and testing files used by Kriegstanz itself. These files are called “Theatre” files, and specify the date range and possible placements of various groups and units, as well as other factors such as weather. Almost all of the functionality of Kriegstanz is included in KD.

So, if you wanted to simulate Operation Drumbeat for example, you would be able create a Theatre for 1941 off the East Coast of the USA, and in it you’d place lone, unescorted merchants on coastal routes, the odd destroyer or two, and a U-boat. ...........
Happy Hunting!

Projekt Messerwetzer solves most problems Sh2 has on modern machines.
