This is the USS Chiwawa. It was a T3-S-A1 auxiliary oiler. After the war she was converted to a bulk carrier and continues to sail the Great Lakes to this day.

I took these photos last May of the ship. If you look at the bridge wing you can see the battle ribbons the ship earned during her career in WWII. They were added in 1999.

These are what the ribbons are:

Top Row: American Campaign Medal, Europe-Africa-Middle East Medal (1)

Bottom Row: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (1), World War II VictoryMedal, NavyOccupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp)

That's pretty cool, Sixx Killer! It's good to see one of the old girls still plying the trade.

Cool, I love Great Lake Ships.:salute:

Thanks guys. I forgot I had taken a video, too. I uploaded it the day I took it. I was hoping my camera would pick up the awesome sound from the engines but it didn't. It was too windy. I was also hoping she would salute the Huron lightship like so many vessels do. I took these pics and video in Port Huron, MI. The bridge in the background is the Bluewater Bridge that goes into Canada. This is the St. Clair River that heads out into Lake Huron. She's heading south, probably with a load of iron ore for one of the auto makers in Detroit. The ship makes regular trips to that area.

Here's the video if anyone's interested.

Here's some more info on the ship if you're interested.

Those are great pictures ...

What else does Michigan have Syxx_Killer?

Perhaps everyone could bring their digital pictures on a thumb drive to the next members meeting. :yep:

We could show them and drink a beer at the same time.
