SH4 Periscope problems

In all types of missions in all subs the periscope view resolution became very low res and now has gone completely black. And won't fire torpedos (cannot get a firing solution - can't determine where the periscope is pointed). When I could see through the scope I could also see back of the the obsevation scope, even in subs with no obs scope.
I tried uninstall and reinstall which seemed to clear the problem, but it returned. Scope views are all black.
I do not have any mods installed. Stock install from store CD.
Anyone else have this problem....solutions?
Thanks,
DA:hmmm:

Raise your periscope and make sure you don't have the other periscope raised? What version of SH4 are you using? 1.4, 1.5?

yes, version did you purchase/install?
and, in which folder did you install it?
which boat are you driving?
at what depth were you when this effect occurred?
have you tried to use either scope while on the surface?

i know it sounds like fifty, dumb questions but the game and its issue resolution are complex.

SH4 periscope problems

I was going to install the 1.4 patch just to find that v 1.5 is installed (Gold Version) on retail CD. It's installed in Windows7.

This problem occurs submerged, surfaced, all the different subs, night or day. Also, it seems the observation periscope is no longer in the periscope tab, so it's not being raised. Periscope is blacked out whether raised or not. Tick marks, etc. not visible either. I can use the mouse to rotate the periscope (hear the ticking noise, but nothing visible in the viewer.

Thanks,
DA

ok, so you have SH4 1.5 Uboat missions installed from CD.
into what folder did you install it?
if you used the default of Windows\Program(x86)\ then you will need to move to a folder outside of that Windows folder.
SH4 does not react well when installed in the default folder.
most of us install to C:\Ubisoft\yourpersonalizedfolderhere.
