Isn't this unrealistic in the extreme?

Finding more than a single enemy sub in one operational area?

I thought subs were isolated to avoid friendly fire?

Thanks.

Real life concepts (in the Diesel era!!!):
"... Principles for the use of submarines taking into account the "space" factor:
1.Avoid using submarines in waters controlled by friendly forces.
2.Using them in enemy-controlled waters reveals their greatest effectiveness.
3.Their areas of application should be restricted in extension where there is no effective own exploration.
4.The mode of action of the diesel submarine is lurking, while that of the nuclear-powered submarine is interception.
5.In the case of combined aeronaval and submarine operations, it is critical to analyse the distances between the respective zones of action.
6. The notion of "diversion" in the selection of action zones should eventually be maintained to spread the threat and disperse enemy defense...."
"... In the case of cooperation between submarines, this should not be deliberately maintained. Except in very particular situations and between fast submarines. It is therefore a question of specific missions in the course of which one submarine could operate for the benefit of another. But this does not exclude that submarine operations can be carried out for the benefit of surface forces and vice versa...".etc,etc.....CW is a good game. But in the end it’s only a game.Greetings. Ah, maybe you can help me with a DOT mod question. I have not really tried the base game.

I like WWII Uboat style hunting. Sink some targets. Then, try to survive if you are detected ... which it seems you always are in DM-CW. Finally, break contact, and disengage.

This is possible in WWII with DC above going to flank (given the noise and loss of contact) and making 90 turn left or right. Sprint and then, go back down to quiet. But the SONAR here seems impossible to disengage from.

Thus, I find that most engagements require you to sink all escorts to get away. Unless you are very fast and sink the closest, you might be beyond detection of those still hunting.

It is this "last man standing approach" which I don't like so much.

Is that the way it is suppose to play, or am I doing it wrong?

Thanks!

FIRST AT ALL: Take the time to really understand the SIG panel (it's the most important thing in the game...).Enter the mission at slow speed.Go silent.Go deep.Keep your distance. For surface groups fire at a distance and down the ping paths.Firing down the ping paths means you can't miss.If you're far enough away, the counter-attack happens too far away to matter. For subs, get behind them, fire at an angle, then dogleg your torpedos into your targets.Generally, the only thing that spots you is air units...so trial-and-error,trial-and-error,trial-and-error.Good luck and good hunt. Thanks.

I know about stopping right in front of my target on the map UI so that I enter silent. But I generally find that I am dropped into the path of a stampede.

How accurate is the battle space to the map UI? Meaning if I merge from the side of SAG travel will the battle space give me a flank attack?

I have tried using the OPTION.TXT setting in DM which allows you to boost the initial contact distance to allow me to position optimally. But I have to say the MOD has some of the most aggressive escorts ... practically suicidal.

I am USED to more WWII where all escorts will prosecute you. After about 45-60 minutes most will catch up with convoy while one will hang back and try for another hour before giving up. I don't see them really giving up in DM.

Thanks.

PS: Yes. sub v sub in '68 is kind of like dog fighting in slow motion. :) I think I might have made 1.1G knuckle. :)
