There were a number of Japanese subs that did have airplanes in on-deck hangers that were part of the conning towers. The JyunsenB was probably the most "common", but the the Type A1, Type AM, and Sen Toku (I-400 Class) were the ones I can remember off the top of my head. One, two or three planes each, and it seems to me that the Sen Toku had parts onboard that could be used to build a 4th Seiran plane. The Type 1 did not do planes, but they did "piggyback" the Ko Hyoteki midget submarines on their decks...

It does look like something is incorrect in the bow and keel areas. Is that a WoWs damage model showing? The torpedo doors do look misplaced also, and look to be open. keltos01 did models for SH4, and he is rather helpful if you are looking to convert his to SH3.

Jyunsen B mod
Includes other subs in it... but I cannot find some of his other mods with more submarines in them...

If you grabbed the ones out of FotRSU, then yes, they are surface ships only. The non-plane equipped submarines are Type=17 for "Elite Destroyer Escort" in the Stock game, but the grouping was re-named to "Surfaced Submarine" for their exclusive use. Setting them to a "normal" surface ship does not make them aggressive enough for the game. CapnScurvy and s7rikeback put torpedo launchers on them ("guns"), which are re-worked from earlier modders' work (DarkFish especially). There were other changes to them for FotRSU compatibility. The other submarines that do have airplanes in FotRSU now have the actual 3D airplanes as a "load-out" on their decks, since the planes were not always "visible", only when preparing to launch them. We have plans for a future animation of "take-offs", ala what Peabody did back when in

but want to be able to control it better. We have not had the time to look further into it. The planes that the player would encounter attacking them "spawn" like they do on the aircraft carriers in the game, since they are set to UnitType=18, which is "Elite Escort Carrier" in the Stock game, but we changed that name to "Light Warship with Scout Planes" in FotRSU (the CL Class can "spawn" scout planes also). The spawning has all of the 'normal' restrictions of other spawns, in that the player cannot be within 20+nm of the spawn location, or must be below what we guess to be at least 100 feet (33m) deep.

I remember both CapnScurvy, but especially s7rikeback put a lot of work into making them compatible for FotRSU, but I do not remember seeing that issue... What does the DMG image look like? Is it showing there?

Those white bars appear to be the Stock E141S002 boarder issue.
Fixed that a while ago..
