Extremely low framerate - TWOS - gaming pc

Hi !

I've recently tried to reinstall SH5 with TWOS on my PC which is kind of a small gaming beast. Unfortunately I am experiencing extremely low framerates which makes it unplayable (haven't even tried to leave port).

I tried the steam install and a uplay install for TWOS (yes i bought 2 copies), that doesn't seem to be the issue as the results are the same.

Some infos about my pc : GTX 1070 Ti, Intelcore i7-8700K 3.70Ghz, 16gigs of RAM

I'd be happy to provide you with some more information about my config if you think you can be of assistance.

Thank you captains!

Try leaving port!

If you're talking about the bunker, where you receive mission orders etc, there's something a bit slo mo about it. I don't know why it's such a resource hog.

I recently upgraded to a 1050 ti and I have 8 gigs of RAM and it runs great with options whacked up. The bunker however is still a little slow but it's not gameplay so who cares? It may also be a little screwy until you get out of the bunker even when you go to the mission. Lighting completely changes once you're out. It's a little strange.

I hope this is the problem.

Just an aside, but I bought the new card and forked out for a new power unit just to play this right. I'm not sorry but it's quite funny to spend 250 bucks on a game where you spend 90 percent of the time looking at a map!

Just tried that... To be more precise fps at port is about 2fps (i'll let you imagine the pain to try talking to someone), leaving port and travelling a bit further does not really help (maybe 3/4 fps on map screen, and still the same when i leave the map view....):hmmm:

What are your graphic settings? Like I said, mine are maxed out except for anti aliasing which I haven’t messed with. How are the settings on your card? Are they game controlled? Have you tried turning all way down and going from there?

I have tried to uncheck every bix in the graphic options and move all sliders to the middle... No notable change. Haven't messed with my graphic card settings yet, will try that on Monday... I'm doing a 74 hours week worth of work, and I'm sleeping at my workplace tonight (which luckily is a hotel😁).

Thank you for your time anyway, I will let you know. Have a nice week end!

Best of luck.

Sooo...
Just tried playing with my graphic settings and graphic card, pushed the parameters as low as I could (the graphics now look like a crappy version of morrowind), and the problem persists.
However I tried a reinstall and tried it without TWOS, and FPS are fine without TWOS. I absolutely want to play with this mod, as the vanilla game if I recall correctly is plagued with bugs which have never been patched.

I'm kind of losing hope to be able to ever play this game again...

I'm no expert on TWOs or this kind of thing, so excuse me if I'm stating the obvious but have you tried a new download of TWOs? It may be corrupted?

Also, it's probably unrelated but I got a good tip from someone that enabling SOANS via file editor is the thing that causes the very long load up when starting the game. I'm doing some skinning so it's handy to be able to boot it up quicker.

I wonder if it's something to do with that?

Have you tried googling 'FPS slowdown with TWOS' and similar things? I've problem solved a lot easier via google than searching within this forum sometimes.

Don’t give up, it took me awhile to iron out certain kinks with TWOs but it really has turned this into the game it should have been.

Are you using FPS lock?

What mods are enabled in your JSGME?

There may be conflicts. I had problems with ctds at first due to one mod.

Hi!

So after a couple hours of trying everything you mentionned and everything I could think of, I finally solved my problem...
I noticed the sound was weird in port, some sounds seemed to be muffled... Hard to explain what it actually sounded like. I disabled a sound manager addon that I had and... miracle! The game runs smoothly now.
I have no idea how sound management would have an influence on framerates, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me.
But important thing is... I can now sail in total freedom!

Thanks a lot for your time and help, I wish you the best, large freighters crossing your path and destroyers escorts with malfunctionning sonars!

Sorry to necro this thread, but thank goodness I found your post. Nobody should use the Per application audio settings in windows 10 with this game, leave silent hunter 5 to default or your framerate will suddenly be very low with no apparent cause. took me a good few hours to figure this out, usually there is no problem with one app being routed to stereo and another to headphones but in the case of SH5 it can be a major issue.
