the install process is fairly straightforward. don't install from the unzip process.
try moving the zip file to c:\temp. then unzip it there. then launch the msi file.
good luck.

No luck. It keeps giving me the same errors msg...

Just dowloaded it again, but it keeps giving me the same error msg. Installed the NET Framework 2.0 and the DirectX 9C as instructed, but no difference...

These are the requisites for the program as it appears in the readme:

------------------
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

* Windows 2000, Windows XP (32/64 bit), Windows Vista (32/64 bit)
* Computer capable of running Silent Hunter ;)

IMPORTANT: The installer included in this package does NOT install the required components listed below. Please use the links to download the components if you don't have them installed on your computer:

* Microsoft .NET 2.0

Vista users can skip this component (.NET 2 comes out of the box with Vista).

For 32-bit editions of Windows:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

For 64-bit editions of Windows:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=B44A0000-ACF8-4FA1-AFFB-40E78D788B00&displaylang=en

* Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (Managed)

---------------------

You should run DirectX 9.0c even if you have a later version, so files that the program needs get installed.

I am struggling to understand how to Export an entire ship to an OBJ file using S3D.

When I select the parent node of the .dat, the Export - 3D Model option is greyed out. If I move down the list to select the node that displays the ship in the render window, the Export - 3D Model is still greyed out. If I drill down and select a component of the ship such as the hull I can now Export -3d Model but of course I only get that part.

How do I export the entire model please?

I don't think you can export an single node, you can export the 'raw' node which will only contain the header values. But you can export the entire dat file which is rather useless because you would have to remove a lot of nodes afterwards, so I don't see how useful it is.

What you must do is: Instead of exporting / importing, first you define child values, then you can copy-paste from another open file and adjust the index and parent numbers. That's what I did when adding torpedos to a playable ship.

DanielCoffey 05-31-20 10:00 AM

What I am hoping to do is export the entire ship and then view it in Blender in one operation. I won't be moving anything around on it.
At the moment it appears that I have to Export each part of the 3D Model individually then Import them into Blender as a group.

I did notice that the funnels are set to the same 0,0,0 as the hull but the deck accessories all have their own origin point and have to be put into place on the deck in Blender. It is almost like having to do your own Airfix Kit!

There's only one Tool to mass export 3D objects in a single pass and get the AO mapping with it.
That Tool is not yet released.

It still will not move all objects into their in Game position.
One needs to check the offsets of all Parent objects and add those settings to get the correct placement.

I think I have a program that makes this easy but I'll have to check.

DanielCoffey 05-31-20 01:07 PM

I have finally spotted the offsets in S3D, thank you. I have assembled most of the Shinshu Maru pretty quickly now once I worked out which objects needed to be in the model to match the existing silhouette.

The game is afoot. First silhouette in progress with hopefully more to follow once I write down and streamline my workflow.

Good!

You would need to extract any Guns and such from their files also.
Then use the CFG whatever settings to help find exact placements.
:salute:

I appreciate that this mod is considered mature but since it is such a fundamentally useful tool I would like to offer the following two feature requests for either it or any successor..

1. A checkbox in the settings to offer the choice of exporting an OBJ either at 0,0,0 (the default action) or inheriting its parent Node's offsets. I know Jeff has suggested this but when working on a large number of vessels this one thing causes the greatest time sink when reassembling the vessel in a modelling tool.

2. Font size. If the above exporting change cannot be made for technical reasons, the ability to increase the size of the font on high-dpi monitors would be very much appreciated and would help reduce eye strain. The main window of the application does not respect Windows 10 scaling guidelines so having to read x,y,z coordinates to three decimal places over and over in a tiny font is a strain. Whatever the default font, something that is about 20% larger would be a useful choice.

Many thanks for continuing to help with the tool.

send those suggestions to the publisher, skwas.
he built that tool on his own time and published to the community out of the kindness of his heart.

For the last 2 days I have been trying to install s3d editor with no luck.
I used it in the past but now that I have a pc with windows10-64Bitsa it's impossible.

Anyone who could drive me trough? Perhaps someone who is very familiar with this OS? I am struggling to catch up with win10...
A step-by step guide could be very useful...

These are the messages I get when I run the installer...

Just checked and -NET 2.0 is installed and working properly... I don't know what else to do...

propbeanie 06-05-20 11:24 PM

Do you have DirectX v9.0c and its related codecs installed, from either an SH3 or 4 install?

yubba 06-29-20 11:04 PM

THX for the response,, I was hoping some one had a conversion floating around to test drive ,, back in the SH-3 days I drove a few ships and I liked that they had a pilothouse I really miss that. oooops wrong thread

CapnHeck 08-28-20 02:46 PM

Where can I download this now?

Sorry for an elementary question. I've Googled and hunted but can seem to find it. There are some fine adjustments I'd like to make to SH4, but I have no idea where to get my hands on S3D.

Any help would be appreciated! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up::Kaleun_Thumbs_Up::Kaleun_Thumbs _Up:

SUBSIM - Downloads - Utilites - Search "3ditor"

This will lead you to the location which is also here... https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/dow...o=file&id=4489

CapnHeck 08-28-20 03:15 PM

Daniel! Thank you SO much! I can't believe the one place I DIDN'T look was the downloads section of the forum. Duh-doy.

One other question, if I may? I'm trying to adjust top speeds....a couple of the subs are a knot or two too fast, I think. But even when I got into data/submarine/(sub type) and adjust the config file, it's not reflected in the game.
Any insight on that? :Kaleun_Salute:
